Bob Ackerman is a pioneering cybersecurity venture capitalist, former serial entrepreneur, and one of the most influential investors in the global cyber ecosystem. With an educational background in Computer Science, Bob founded Allegis Capital in 1996 as an entrepreneur-centric, early-stage venture firm focused on building category-defining technology companies.
Recognizing the growing importance of cybersecurity early on, Allegis became AllegisCyber in 2012—the world’s first venture capital firm dedicated 100% to cybersecurity investing. In 2015, Bob was named one of “Cyber’s Money Men” and led the raise of the world’s first dedicated cybersecurity venture fund, cementing his role as a driving force behind the industry’s growth.
In 2016, Bob co-founded DataTribe, a unique startup foundry based in Columbia, Maryland, where AllegisCyber partners with entrepreneurs to co-found multiple disruptive cybersecurity startups each year. His investment focus spans cybersecurity and network infrastructure, with a hands-on approach that supports founders from initial idea through scale.
Beyond investing, Bob is deeply committed to education and innovation. He teaches New Venture Finance in the MBA program at the University of California, Berkeley, and serves on the Advisory Board for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. His nonprofit interests include advancing STEM education and supporting the arts, including past service on the Board of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
